2008 Year End Charitable and Other Tax Savings Ideas for Individuals
As a general rule, you may deduct the full amount of monetary donations made to qualified charitable contributions. If you donate appreciated property held for more than one year, you can generally deduct the current fair-market value of the property. This applies to publicly traded securities, land, real property, etc.
2008 Year-End Business Tax Planning Ideas
* You can take a 2008 deduction for all business expenses post marked on or before 12/31/08.
* You can claim the deduction even though the checks may not be cashed until 2009.
* If you use a credit card to pay expenses, be sure to print out a receipt that shows the purchase on 12/31/08 or sooner.
The above methods will create 2008 tax deductions even though you may not pay them until 2009.
