Meet the Staff: Talitha

March 25, 2011

I’ll start with me and how I came to work here. Last summer, some of my family and I accepted the Pearl’s invitation to their church and made the trip in mid-June. While my family was having a great time swimming in Cane Creek, I wandered up to Debi’s garden. Debi had not been to church that morning because of a toothache, so when I saw her driving up in the Kubota, I was excited. I’d met her once before at a seminar about five years earlier, but was glad to be able to see her again. After we’d talked for a few minutes, she told me that she remembered me from a seminar years back (something that’s an impossibility for her, she said). She showed me around and asked if I would like to come work here at NGJ. The next few days were miserable for me as I tried to make a decision. My life was full at home. I was involved in ministry at least three times a week. I milked my cows every morning and night and was teaching myself what to do with their milk. I had a huge garden that I tended and would put away the vegetables. Six of my seven siblings and their families lived close by. Plus dozens of other reasons. Everything was perfect. Why would I want to leave? I had only one answer and it was the ultimate reason I chose to come. “I will regret it later if I don’t go now.” So, I came. Since I’ve come, I do believe that God wanted me here. These past several months have been good for me, to say the least. It’s been a blast to learn about the Cane Creek community and how they “operate.” I’ve made some very good friends and am ministering in a different way than I was at home. Being unmarried and 27, Debi is searching frantically for a husband for me. 🙂 It’s nice knowing people care for me, and yet I know that wherever I am, God is my father and he cares for me even more. So, I’ll continue to trust Him and prepare for whatever God has in store for my life.
