Hello! Ive read many of your books and you and your ministry have been a great blessing to our family. I am writing tonight because I have something weighing heavy on me and I simply am not sure what to do about it. Perhaps I DO know what to do, but I have no one i know personally to talk to about it...so here I am. Both my husband and I are born again. We love the Lord and want to raise our children to know and love him as well. I read created to be his helpmeet, but as of right now I am in another state so can not look for godly council in mrs pearls book. To get down to it, my husband is a drinker...and it's getting worse as time goes by. I'm afraid to go to anyone in our church about it because I know it will embarrass and upset him and my only friends are in our church. I'd rather remain anonymous for his sake anyways. My question is, how should I deal with it? I don't drink with him (or at all). I've tried talking to him but it get mixed responses. Usually he gets mad, but there are times when he admits it's a problem and wants to quit. But it has only lasted for a very short time before he drinks again. And that's it, one taste and he can't stop. I admit I get angry with him at times. Very angry. When he can't talk right, can't walk right...it makes me cry and alternate between despair and disgust. Now, having read your material which expounds on the Word, I know, I KNOW, I should not harp on him and give him disapproving looks, etc. But what, if anything CAN I do? I pray for him and for the Spirits conviction. How can I myself get through this and be a godly wife to him? It's hard for me to not say anything to him. Should I just not, and ask and STRIVE to not be the 'party popper' and a nagging miserable wife...which is what I feel like. Any advice would be good. Thank you!

I love this, it's spot-on.
When I read number 2, Security, I thought, Could you give me an example of how to be pro-active in this? Thanks.

Also, if we are indeed living by the Spirit of the Lord, He should and does illuminate His living Word when we read it, which is why we can't just "use" or interpret the Word any way we feel like when it is convenient for us to do so. the pharisees and scribes did it that way and totally missed their Messiah! we need God's Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth. one proverb may be appropriate for one situation and the other for another. it takes God to interpret His word, and therefore give us the answer we need in the times that we need it.

Agreed, Jonathan.
If someone were to break into my house and accost my wife and children, my immediate response would be, "where's my bat." Is that how Christ would have me respond? As father of 7 in a nation becoming increasingly anti-Christian, this unfortunately has become an issue at the front of my noggin.

God has set the civil authorities in place and punishes evil-doers thru them. What is the clear scriptural teaching regarding violent self-defense and violence used to defend others?

Is violent defense of our homeland right for believers in Christ? If so, why is there seemingly no record of this during Rome's persecution of 1st century Christians?

Help me out, this is a real question for me too. It's not a "what feels right" question....it's a question of what does God want me to do....period.

My feelings will get over it.

Thanks.

You didn't answer the question! That was terrible. At least cite the scripture where it mentions Nimrod and the tower of Babel. Why was Babel destroyed, what does the word 'Babel' mean, etc.?

Mike's answer, while logical and true, did not get to the heart of the question in my opinion. What is your view on use of force? Do you believe in non-resistance? I have read where you don't believe in resisting government, but I also remember your argument for self-defense. I would like to hear more of your thoughts and Bible teaching on this more specifically.
