Our oldest only sucked his thumb when he was sleepy. We left him alone, and he quit on his own. Our second son, however, is still sucking his thumb all the time! He is just shy of 5 and we feel he is using that - as what we don't know yet. We have been wondering if we should swat him, or just continue to take his hand out and say "no".
At this time we do not sense any defiance; if we tell him not to, it will be a bit before he does it again, then he acts puzzled if we tell him to stop. After reading this I think we will continue what we've been doing until we can determine WHY he does it.
Thanks!

I'm really glad to read the response to the thumbsucking question. I have a 13month old boy and I want to stop him sucking before it gets any more difficult to do. He cries alot when I pull out his finger but I will keep at it and hope he stops soon. He also sucks his thumb while sleeping, I hope I can get him to stop that too.

Thank You so much for explainng your "switch"! I have been wondering what you would use! I have tried alders, but they dry up so fast, and can leave little marks! But they do work! A quick swat with it can get quick attention, and you don't feel like your'e spanking all the time! This "plumbing line" sure is going to make switching a whole lot easier! Especially in the winter!! :) No more wading in snow to keep it on hand! I also have been doing some research on Autism and from what I am reading, I am not going to have to use a switch half as much as needed now once I have properly changed my sons diet! Thank you for your ministry!

Thank you! I, too, wanted to know just what "rod" to use on my children. I've tried gluesticks (not enough sting and can easily leave a bruise), small branches and willow "whips" (dry out too fast and break; not easy to get unless you have a yard), my hand (obviously not a "rod" and their response is less desirable than when using an "instrument" for punishment), and the boys' belts (the best of all, but still not easy for me to use). I hope to soon have some "plumbing supply line" on hand. Also, thank you for the information you so "freely" supply for those who are not able to purchase your materials. I have bought a couple of things in the States, but Honey is not "so willing to" now, so I'm thankful for some Bible-based counsel that I can find so easily. I praise the Lord for your hard work and your ministry to others!
