Hi, I’m Judy. I’m 17 years old and I’ve already gotten my BA in communications by CLEPing and online classes. I have been courting this guy (22 years old) for 9 months, I’ve prayed a lot and really feel this is God’s will for me. Both of my parents approve. We have been talking about the future and we think we are ready to get married. First though, we are seeking counsel. 🙂 I would like to ask your opinion on the subject.

I do not think 17 is too young for SOME PEOPLE. It really depends on your maturity and your parents and his parents and everyone you know. Ask people who know you well what they think. Are you mature? Are you really ready for marriage? Just questions to think about.

    Congrats, btw!!! 😀

I believe that maturity is reached at a different age by different people and what their personalities are; I know two guys, for instance, who used to hang out together. One was 17, and the other 19. I knew both of them pretty well, and from observation I saw that the 17 year-old dude had the equivalent maturity of most 22 year-olds, whilst the 19 year-old could have passed for sixteen! Responsibility also matures some immature people quite quickly, too, and I think that people with responsibility are more apt to growing up faster and learning their place in life a lot quicker. Those with no responsibility (take most of society today, for instance!) are immature, time-wasting, computer addicts who know more about X-box than how to tell a cos-lettuce from an iceberg. So I think that as responsibility and maturity are indirectly related, that you should actually consider whether or not you are ready to take on the responsibility of being married, rather than “am I mature enough.”

I doubt your parents would give their blessing on your marriage if they felt that you were not responsible enough. Also, does God ever set an age on anything or anyone? Never! And if you’re getting married in His will, don’t worry about your age… time will fix that all too soon. Rather consider whether or not you’re ready to take on the responsibility of being a good wife, home-keeper and supporter to your awesome man. He’s taking on a lot of responsibility too!

Place this in God’s hands, commit it all to Him and He will do wonders. You don’t need to worry about anything when God has the reins!

God bless all of you dear, sweet girls!
