Scroll down on the main homepage and there is a “popular post” on this very subject with people hashing out all of the different opinions. Its very informative, and I think it will help you make a decision.

Consider these verses: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”

“If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”

    1 Corinthians 3:16-17 KJV

In the end you will do want you want, but consider the verses of Scripture before making your decisions.

My opinion – no, as long as it is simple and not a distraction or degrading. However, you are 16 and I advise you to be careful. For some ladies have said that they later didn’t want them and the holes would not go away. So be sure this is what you want! Happy Birthday

my Grandma had my mom’s pierced at a very young age. and mom has told me she wished it had never gotten done. because some time between babies
she stopped wearing jewelry except for a simple wedding ring. every now an then the old holes get infected. the gold nugget to me is; be very confident that you want them before making such a desicion

Hi Nicole, you might find these threads helpful:

    http://nogreaterjoy.org/blogs/preparingtobeahelpmeet/cartilage-piercings/

    http://nogreaterjoy.org/blogs/preparingtobeahelpmeet/is-getting-your-ears-pierced-wrong/

Some things to consider: What do your parents think of you getting a cartilage piercing? What is your reason for wanting a cartilage piercing?

And remember that piercings are pretty permanent. Yes, they can close up over time, but they’re usually still somewhat visible even years later. So make sure you’re certain before you get it done. 🙂

    Hello Nicole,
This was discussed before, over here:

    http://nogreaterjoy.org/blogs/preparingtobeahelpmeet/is-getting-your-ears-pierced-wrong/
(I like what Lydia Choo had to say.)

I thought this was a good point, written by Rebecca I.

“I’ll just throw this out. I had my ears pierced before I was married, but my husband prefers that I don’t wear them. Now I have holes in my ears. If I’m not going to wear them, I’d prefer not to have the holes. (Mine haven’t grown back in like some of my friends’.) Also, my little girls are rather intrigued by the fact that I have holes and used to wear them; when I’d rather not focus on that since their father wants them taught this way. I personally think they are fine, but this is just something to think about. You could wait until you are married and you know what your husband prefers (if you aren’t married yet.)”

Other than that, make sure you honor your parents, and obey their wishes–even about something like this that other young people might think is trivial or “normal”! (Read Eph. 6:1-2) 🙂

No, examine your heart and why you want it…rebellion or attention? Or just because you think it looks nice?

This probably isn’t something that you want to hear, but if you have any doubts about it. You probably shouldn’t do it. Cuz once you get it done. You can’t really ever undo.
another options is just to wear clip on earrings or screw on. There are a lot of cute clip on earrings out there. That way you could still wear earrings, and you wouldn’t have the hole in your ears?

I hadn’t thought of that, but it makes sense. If you’re having a really hard time deciding, then it’s probably best not to. I have several friends who wear clip-on earrings because they just can’t make up their minds if they want holes in their ears (lobes, not cartilage) or not. Other than the fact that they tend to wear smaller earrings because you usually can’t find big ones that clip on, you really can’t tell the that they’re wearing clip-on ones and not regular earrings.

To this I would say I wouldn’t suggest it. The Bible says treat our bodies as Gods temple. In doing so we should not abuse our body etc. Now I understand the one hole that “everyone” has. We’ve sorta justified that into thinking that is even okay. A guy at church commented on my earrings by saying, ” Your earrings are kinda cool, but what would possess you to put a hole in your ear for vanity is beyond me.” I thought about that a while and thought, well I’d never of thought of it that way. I wouldn’t have thought of it if I hadn’t seen others doing it. Jesus Christ never left that as an example. RIGHT? Well like I said I have my ears pierced but adding another I wouldn’t suggest. Just something to think about.

I guess it depends on why you want them. Is it to get more attention or just because you think they are pretty?
My grandparents were missionaries in Mexico, so my mom spent most of her childhood in there. In Mexico it is traditional for infant girls to get their ears pierced. My mom spent a lot of her childhood snuggling these precious Hispanic babies, so she decided to get me and my sisters ears pierced when we were pretty young, to remind her of those happy times. When we first got them (and until we were about 12) we would wear almost studs, and as we got older we could wear very small hoops and short dangles which is what I have always stuck to (I feel that big ones like peacock feathers are to gaudy). I only have my ear lobes pierced 1 place and that is all I plan to ever get. Honestly, I love having earings they are a fun way to dress up even a casual outfit (such as for Wednesday night bible study) I am in college and have class at 8am, so having a small pair of earings in is a fun and easy way to feel more put together even when you are super tired.
NOTE: I recommend not getting big earings if you want to keep your holes small and invisible (b/c big heavy ones will weight down your holes, and with extensive wear permanently)

In the end do what you feel is best for you 😀
