Question

Posted September 17, 2012

I noticed recently that I have been lacking joy in my life and feel some discontentment about various things, so I did a Bible study on joy and man was it eye-opening! I realized that in most examples joy comes from being thankful and praising God, but of course we don’t always “feel” that way. I’ve read several of the articles/listened to stuff the Pearls have published on how to train children to be thankful, but I was wondering if anyone has tips on how you can help yourself become more thankful. Thanks for ANY and ALL responses, I would love to hear everyone’s comments!

I think it is very important for a lady to be joyful. This does NOT mean to “be happy” all the time. Joy is different than happiness. Joy shows on a lady’s face, through her eyes, and radiates around her. Everyone around her feels her joyful countenance.
I’ll be looking forward to hearing people’s responses, I think this is something everyone struggles with to some extent or another!

Thank the LORD aloud! Thank him quietly. Even for little things, the sunshine, the spring air, prety music, the fact that he made YOU. Listen to pretty music that makes you smile! Tell silly jokes!! That are clean of course. Smile at everyone you meet. Give thanks with a greatful heart, give thanks because he’s given Jesus Christ his Son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The atmosphere your in also has a lot to do with the wya you are. Sp play music, put flowers out

Here’s an excellent article by Debi Pearl on the subject: https://nogreaterjoy.org/articles/count-your-blessings/
The thing that helps me with this is to constantly all day every day to thank God for things. Anything and everything, no matter how big or how small. It opens your eyes to the whole beautiful world full of joys that God has given us to enjoy! Also, if I catch myself thinking a negative thought, I try immediately to change it to a good thought by thanking God for something. For example, if I am annoyed by something my dad does, I try to immediately say, “Thank you, Lord, for giving me such a wonderful dad who loves me and tries his best to lead our family in your ways.” Then I’ll go on to thank God for the sunshine or a hot shower or my salvation, or etc, etc, etc. It’s amazing how constantly thanking God really opens your eyes to your blessings and makes you sincerely thankful and joyful. The best times in my relationship with God have been the times when I constantly remember all day long to thank Him, and the worst times have been when I focus on the bad and forget to talk to Him and express gratitude.
    Hope this helps!
    Praising the Lord,

I love this question. I believe that thankfulness is the key to a happy home, for you can not be depressed, discontent or disobedient when you are thankful. I started training my children to be thankful from day one and I love the results of it. I myself do a study on joy and thankfulness often, it is good to be reminded to live in joy. As a practical thing I do to remind myself to be joyful is, memorize scripture on joy, pray for others and their well being all the time. I will also put a note on the refrigerator in dig letters, BE HAPPY! And if I really need a wakeup call I will read a book about those being persecuted for Christ, or just watch a youtube of a little child thanking God that someone brought him food and clean water to drink. I am blessed and need to always be thankful for I could have nothing like some of the children in this world. Thankful to God, Shalom
