Question

It has been a wonderful year here on the Preparing site. All of you girls are wonderful and I love all of you . It has been so wonderful to see you grow in the Lord. My prayer for each of you is that you will each grow to love and serve the Lord even more in this next coming year. I would like to hear from you girls on what you plan on learning this coming year. Reread the Chapter in Preparing on Knowledge, chapter 7. Rememder the Caution for that chapter: Shrugging off learning can be devastating. As for a good book to add to your preparing list I would suggest My sisters book “Making Babies” It is a great book for learning all about staying healthy and is full of wonderful recipes to keep the whole family strong and happy. http://www.bulkherbstore.com/Making-Babies
I will post a coupon code for January 7th some time this next week so watch for it. Happy new year, Shalom

Yes, this really has been a great year on here! I don’t write very often, but I really enjoy reading everyone’s questions and comments! Thank you so much for providing this website!
I’m in college, so I’ll be busy learning all sorts of things this year (I’m a music and missions major in a very small, fundamental Baptist Bible College), but besides that, I have a few other things that I really want to learn. I know an older lady who raises sheep and makes all sorts of products from them. I want to learn to milk sheep, make sheep cheese, and spin and dye raw wool. I also want to learn (and have been working on learning) Creole, the common language of Haiti. I went on a short-term mission trip to Haiti last year, hope to go again next year, and have been seeking the Lord on whether or not He wants me to give my life as a missionary there once I am finished with school. Knowing the language would obviously help me so much. whether I live there full-time someday or just stick with mission trips. It has been so much fun learning it!
I want to continue improving my piano and flute playing and singing, and I want to continue to learn more about writing and arranging music: working with harmonies, chords, and such – so much fun!
I also want to read books on missions, music, farming, farming in the southern hemisphere, Haiti, natural medicine, and all sorts of subjects in between.
I also want to take a speed-reading course (on DVD) that a friend loaned me, so I can whiz through all these books in the two weeks I have left in Christmas break. I think I’ll need it! πŸ˜€

My plan this year is to study and learn more about home birth! I had my first child at home and then my last two at a maternity Center which was almost like a home birth, just with a midwife there. For this next baby my husband and I are going to have it on our own. He has wanted to every time but was ok with whatever I decided. So this time I told him we would have it at home with just us. He is quite happy with that. We will be reading and studding together the next few months. It should be fun! Shalom

So, Shalom, are you expecting then? I hadn’t heard anything about it, but thought maybe I missed something. πŸ™‚

Congratulations! Enjoy your home birth… my husband and I still smile at the place on our bed that our youngest was born!! You’ll love it. I’ll pray for you for another thing, now! πŸ™‚

Congratulations! That will be fun! Two of my four younger siblings were born at home, and the last one was born in a hotel! lol πŸ™‚

I’m finishing up high school this spring, and am planning on some mission work this summer. After that I am planning to go through an herb course by Shonda Parker. Good stuff to learn in my mind – for family – and if I were to live on some other country, I think it might really come in handy then too! πŸ™‚

Thank you, Shalom! I have learned so much from the book and this site! I am also constantly learning from your parents articles and videos on the No Greater Joy website and your sister’s at the Bulk Herb Store.

New things I plan to learn this year are piano, raising turkeys and how to butcher the chickens I am raising.

    New Year, New learning!
This year, I am continuing to study Machine Shorthand (the code that court reporters use to write everything that is spoken during a trial or deposition quickly).

I know, you’re thinking, “You said ‘continue’, so that’s not NEW!” It’s new because I am studying a new and different way! Last year, I was in an online school, where I learned the basics of the “theory” or “code.” This year, I will be practicing on my own, increasing the speed at which I can “write” on the machine. I’m up to 100 words per minute, and my goal is to reach 240 words per minute! With this skill, I can work from home as a closed captioning provider for television or online business meetings or for the state relay system (facilitating calls between hearing and deaf people). I could also provide real-time captioning for deaf students in college classes.

I am also planning to develop some new, healthy, gluten-free recipes and menus.

Finally, (although there may be more discoveries along the way!) I’d like to start publishing the blog I’m always writing in my head! So many things to learn, I want to share them as I go along!

I hope to learn more how to be confident and less of an Enabler. I tend to let other people take advantage of me and then wonder why I feel so pressed/pressured.

Another thing I’m hoping to learn is natural alternatives to common diseases like Autism and animal allergies.

Congratulations, Shalom! Many blessings on you and yours.

Christy, I would love to hear more of what you are learning regarding diseases. I have done a ton of research trying to reverse diabetes and celiac disease.

Thank you so much for all the work you put into this site, Shalom! It has been a huge blessing to me.

As far as learning this year………….Mostly I’m just hoping to survive a crazy busy college class schedule. πŸ™‚ I’m continuing to learn American Sign Language and would like to increase my vocabulary and understanding of ASL grammar.

One major thing I hope to improve upon is learning how to treat my younger siblings less like little children and more like peers. It is so strange to see my baby brother starting to go through puberty – seems like only yesterday I was changing his diaper. πŸ™‚ And now I have to figure out how to treat him like a “big boy.”

I’m hoping to fit some “fun learning” in between college classes. I’d like to improve my sewing skills (especially altering clothing) and try my hand at growing some herbs. And I want to learn more about finances and handling a budget, and of course the ongoing health and cooking stuff. And something really random – I took a calligraphy class years and years ago and was just recently thinking that it would be fun to give that a try again.

I always have so many ideas for stuff to learn; there never seems to be enough time to get it all done. Maybe there is a bit of Dreamer in my Go-to/Servant self after all! πŸ™‚

You need to teach me ASL! Lately I really think God has been putting on my heart to learn it. Don’t know why, but God does. Any tips on where to learn ASL?

Sorry I haven’t replied to your post. Several days ago, I wrote this lovely long, painfully detailed post with all kinds of links and book recommendations and when I hit “submit” it deleted my post. *sniffle* So when I can remember everything I wrote, I’ll try to post it again.

But in the meantime, why don’t you just come over to my house and I’ll be your tutor?! πŸ™‚ Wouldn’t that be fun?! πŸ™‚

Okie dokie! It would be better than the tutor I worked with a couple times. Not only did he have awful ASL skills, but he was creepy too. No more tutoring for me. πŸ™‚
