Question

Posted July 16, 2012

I was raised in a semi-Christian home, and I have always had faith in God. From the ages of 16-18, however, I dated a non Christian and we had a sexual relationship. I am out of this relationship now, and I am committed to the Lord. However, I hate having this huge stain on my purity. My dear new friends have purity rings, and I would so love to get one to show my new heart concerning purity. I just don’t know how God would feel about that since in reality, I am not pure. Help please~

Dearest Liz! By all means, get a purity ring!! If that’s truly your heart–to remain pure–then why should you not get one? God washes our sins away when we ask him and we are as clean as snow afterward. Please let us know what you decide to do, and blessings!! 🙂

    Dear Liz,

Is it possible to be pure again in God’s eyes? Yes! A thousand times YES!!! If it weren’t possible than you would be a lost sinner with no hope of salvation. If God were still holding your past sin against you, than that means that you were not fully forgiven.

“If any man be in Christ he is a NEW creation, THE OLD HAS PASSED AWAY, behold the new has come.” 2 Cor 5:17

“As far as the east is from the west so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12

“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD, though your sins be like scarlet, they shall be white as snow, though they be red as crimsion they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18

“For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others.” 2 Cor 5:19

“Oh, what joy for those whose rebellion is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those WHOSE RECORD THE LORD HAS CLEARED OF SIN, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!” Psalm 32:1-2

“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if you do sin, there is someone to plead for you before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who pleases God completely. His is the sacrifice for our sins. He takes away not only our sins but the sins of all the world.” 1 John 2:1-2

“If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.” 1 John 1:8-9

“For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet now God in his gracious kindness declares us not guilty. He has done his through Christ Jesus, who has freed us by taking away our sins.” Romans 3:23-24

There are so many other verses that I could share but I’m out of time right now. Liz, I think you are feeling like a second class Christian right now. That’s not how it works in God’s kingdom. If you have repented and come to the Lord since that sinful relationship, if you are trusting Jesus to forgive you then YOU ARE FORGIVEN!!! I can’t remember the verse right now but I seem to remember a passage in the OT that says that the Lord IS our righteousness. Do some digging in the scriptures about forgiveness and salvation. Your question is the very essence of the gospel “I have sinned, how can I make it right with God?” Let me tell you Liz, if you are truly saved then you are pure in God’s eyes. When God sees you he sees perfection, righteousness and purity. How can this be? Because when God looks at you he sees Jesus. You see Jesus took your record and replaced it with His. That is the salvation message. “There is now, then no condemnation for those who are in Christ”
This article at the NGJ website really helped me work through so much of the guilt I was holding onto even though I was saved.

    https://nogreaterjoy.org/articles/can-you-believe-it/

I hope you read it and God uses it to set you free like he did me. Also, consider doing a study of Romans.

As for a purity ring, I think it just might be a great outward symbol of your faith that God has made you pure through His son Jesus. You can’t change the past but God is giving you a new begining. “His mercies are fresh each day”

I hope this helps you dear Liz. May God bless you!

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

“There is, therefore, no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”

“The Blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sins.”

God’s grace is so abundant! We all sin every day, but God is willing to forgive, and remember our offenses no more. If you have truly repented and laid your sins at the foot of His cross, you are pure in His eyes. Definitely go for the purity ring if it is a reminder for you of the life you wish to live for Christ. 🙂

    Hi Liz!
You should start to think about your future, not your past. Think about the forgiveness given to you because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross. He has replaced our impurity with His righteousness.
Once you understand your forgiveness in Christ, you will be able to think and act like a pure woman, and your future husband will be able to see you as so. 🙂
I will be praying for you darling! xxx~Kelsey

Yes, you can become new and pure in Christ. When you ask for His blood to cleanse all of your sins you become a new creature. Old things pass away behold all things are become new. The Lord has the wonderful power of forgiving and forgetting. Unlike us humans He blots it forever out of th bbook ith Jesus’ blood. Although it was wrong God forgives that sin just as He does when you tell a lie or steal something. Hei is a just judge and a fair God! Praise the Lord for His wonderful mercy. He truly is an amzing and wonderful God. I would encourage you to just fully give your past sin to the Lord and let Him take care of it! Also wear a purity ring if you want. You are pure and new in Christ our Lord. Your testimony can also be a testimony to other girls who have also had the same struggles.
