To not believe in a gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:3 is not only contrary to clear Scripture, it is not in keeping with the historical positions of both Judaism and Bible-believing Christianity. There is no reason to reject to the plain sense of Scripture on this subject except that which has arisen in modern times- a need to prove a young earth in order to deny theistic evolution to occur. Only those influenced by the "Christian scientists" have been led away from orthodoxy on this point.
