Bible Questions with Michael Pearl
Episode 001: Why is the love of money the root of all evil?

By Michael Pearl

Episode Transcription:

Michael Pearl:  Hi, I'm Michael Pearl. We're going to be answering some of your Bible questions. Now I haven't seen any of these questions, so they're going to kind of catch me by surprise here. But we're going to see what you've been writing in and what your concern is, and try to answer them for you.

Jared:  First, Timothy 6:10 says: "For the love of money is the root of all evil." Wasn't the first sin disobedience unrelated to money, for Adam and Eve knew nothing of money?

Michael:  All right, that's a very good question. And I am turning here in the Bible to the Book of Ezekiel Chapter 28. How is it that the love of money is root of all evil? Now, all we have to do is examine sins in the lives of different individuals and know that there's lots of evil on this earth that does not have money as the source of it. For instance, there are lots of tribal people who don't use currency and don't use money. So how could money be the root of their evil? They're people who have never had contact with the outside world.

But the fact is, the Bible says money, the love of money, is the root of all evil, and so it must be true. Now in Ezekiel Chapter 28 the Bible speaks of a character called Lucifer. Lucifer is an anointed cherub created by God to exist around his throne, who was in charge of planet prior to our existence here on earth. That planet was named Eden.

He said in Ezekiel 28:13: "Thou hast been in Eden, the garden of God." That's how come there was a Garden of Eden. "Every precious stone is they covering." The topaz, so forth. He says in Verse 14: "You're the anointed cherub." He said, "You're perfect in all your ways until iniquity was found in thee." He says, "Oh, covering cherub." That was his occupation; he covered the throne of God.

As in Revelations Chapter 4:5: "From the midst of the stone of fire, you lifted up your heart because of your beauty, because of your brightness." But he said, "I will cast you down to the ground." And he said, "Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffic. Therefore will I bring thee forth out of the midst of thee..." and so forth, so forth, so forth.

And so the sin of Lucifer, the first individual who sinned prior to Adam, the sin of Lucifer involved in trafficking. The sin of Lucifer involved merchandising. Read Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28.

And so this was prior to the creation of Adam and Eve. It was on this planet that it occurred. It was a race of male beings that God created, and they had a hierarchy of power. They had cherubim at the top, and then seraphim, and then under that was angels.

And sin occurred under one of the leaders, Lucifer. And he drew, as the Book of Revelations tell us, one third of the angels with him in this rebellion. Therefore in Genesis Chapter one and two when we find Adam and Eve being created, we find that there already exists at that point a disembodied creature called Lucifer, the serpent, the Devil. And he is there as an evil person to tempt Adam and Eve, sin having already occurred.

So Lucifer was there tempting Eve, beguiling her to sin. So his sin, the love of money, was the root of all sin that resulted in Eve's temptation and her fall, so that all sin can be traced back to that first act of sin committed by Lucifer, which involved trafficking, the love of money.
