The Fourth of July

July 4, 2011

Today is the National Day of the United States. Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is the commemoration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence which took place 235 years ago on this day. An interesting fact about the Fourth is that the only two signers of the Declaration of Independence that served as U.S. Presidents died on the same day: July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Also, it was not until 1938 that Congress changed it to a paid Federal Holiday.
