Michael Pearl: Alright, here I am in front of the camera instead of out on the tractor today, and Jared has some questions that you sent in. He is going to read the question, and I am going to try to give you an answer from the Bible. Jared, what's the first question?
Jared: In the "Good and Evil Graphic Novel", you depict Mary Magdalene as a prostitute. Are there any biblical facts that support this?
Michael: No, there's no biblical basis for saying she was a prostitute. She was spoken of as a sinner and as possessed of seven devils. And, again, that's just a pictorial representation, and we fleshed it out using some imagination. So, no, there's no absolute certainty that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. Now, there were other women that were...like the—what was it the scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus? That, “if you knew what kind of woman that is, she is a sinner,” and it didn't say what she was. But she had a reputation as a sinner, and so our assumption is that there was some public sin there, especially having been possessed of seven devils.
So, no, you can dismiss that as a fact and take that to be a writer's license. That's not a Bible. It's a Bible story book and it's fleshed out.
