Hello, I am 15 years old. I have this shirt I really like , because it’s pretty. But I’m not sure if I should wear it because it’s a tank top. It is neon pink and skin tight. The only reason I want to wear it is because it is my favorite color. Definitely not to impress anyone! Is it not modest if I wear it?

I think this kind of depends on where you live. In a very sheltered amish-type community this would probably not be appropriate. In the city it’s normal. I think tank tops are fine as long as the setting is appropriate (I don’t wear them to church but I do wear them at the beach) and it’s not cut too low. As a general guideline I will wear tank tops that don’t show cleavage, if they do I’ll wear a higher cut cami underneath. I usually wear an open jacket or cardigan with it. That way you’re showing less skin but you can still have your tank top 🙂 In the end you will have to decide for yourself if it’s modest. I have seen very modest, normal tank tops as well as tank tops I thought were absolutely inappropriate. It also depends on your attitude, some girls seem seducing in every outfit because that’s the way the act and present themselves. Some seem modest even in more revealing outfits because they have a modest spirit… Opinions on this vary a lot… maybe you could ask your brother or father if they thought it was OK
Hi Argirl! 🙂 It’s great that you have a longing to be modest! Especially in this dark world! Personally, for me where I draw the line to whether or not something is modest is whether I even QUESTION it. I can purchase something and it looks perfectly modest and beautiful and when I put it on perhaps its skin tight. I unconsciously wonder if I should wear it or not.
You have to follow your heart. I would think that it wouldn’t be modest, however you might think it is! I prefer not to wear skin tight because it shows every curve on your body and it’s tough on the guys. Especially the ones that want a pure heart and mind. Also, it shows a lot of arm. So that’s also not really a good thing!
One thing I agree with Smiley though is that sometimes things look modest on certain people and sometimes it doesn’t. I never publically wear anything without sleeves or just spaghetti straps (not even in front of my brothers!) yet I’ve seen a beautiful girl wear a modest outfit including a long flowing skirt and a sleeveless blouse.
