Question

Posted September 10, 2012

Recently at a family gathering my Aunt made the statement that i was pretty, my grandma responded, “She’d be prettier if she could get rid of her acne. That stung. I don’t have that much, but i do have a little bit on my forehead. My mom bought me a ton of stuff, and it tones it dwon a little bit. Doesa anyone have some practical preferably homemeade suggestions?? I’d be sooooo grateful. I don’t really wear makeup except for a concealer occasionaly

I have one for Overnight Acne Cream. 4 drops tea tree oil and 1 teaspoon cosmetic clay. In a small dish, mix the tea tree oil and the cosmetic clay, and just enough water to make a thick paste. Dab onto blemishes and leave on overnight.

Use tea tree oil soap. My acne has cleared up tremendously since I started using it. It helps to slow down the oil production and they also say that if you get a pimple, just put tea tree oil on it.

Elderly people sure can get away with being blunt, can’t they? 🙂 I hope someone has a good answer to this question! I get a little acne, but mostly it’s heat rash during the summer – on my back, neck, and forehead. So if anyone has suggestions for that, I’d be happy to here them! 🙂

    Hello Someone’sfuturewife,
I can definitely identify with your acne frustrations! I’ve found a few things recently that seem to help, though.
My college roommate just told me this week that she noticed that she gets a lot less acne if she eats garlic (cooks with it, puts garlic powder or garlic salt in her food, takes garlic capsules, etc.) She asked her doctor about it and the doctor confirmed that garlic is very good for preventing acne, as well as all the other amazing health benefits it provides.
Also, a friend and I have been trying the “oil washing method”. So many of the products you buy, to cleanse your face, are very harsh on your skin. Often they strip your skin of its natural oils and so it tries to make up for that by producing more and more oil, which obviously causes problems. This oil washing method sounds crazy at first, but it makes a lot of sense once you learn about how it works. It works with nature and with your skin instead of against them. Here’s a whole bunch of links you can look at to learn about it: http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/, http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2011/12/wash-your-face-with-oili-dare-you.html, http://www.instructables.com/id/Wash-Your-Face-With-Oil/, http://www.ehow.com/how_6177604_clean-face-oil.html
My friend hasn’t seen a whole lot of difference since she’s been using this method (her acne is about the same as it was with the products she used to use, no better no worse), but it has worked fantastically for me! I used it and my skin cleared up, then I stopped using it for a couple of weeks and I broke out, so I started using it again and my skin cleared up again! I have also more recently been using a thyme-infused oil which I really like! Here is a website with some information about the benefits of thyme on your skin. If you are interested, I can tell you in another post how to make a thyme-infused oil.
    http://www.crunchybetty.com/thyme-to-control-blemishes-and-acne
Also, you could try going to http://www.bulkherbstore.com and search for the word “acne” and see what you can learn. Or even a google search could shed some light on the subject. There are all sorts of home remedies that different people use that works for them and not for others. It may take some study and experimentation on your part to see what works for you.
As for covering it up, I made a face powder out of bentonite clay powder and cocoa and it works pretty well. I got the bentonite clay from http://www.bulkherbstore.com and mixed the dry powder with a little bit of cocoa until it was the right color to blend into my skin. Then I just rub it on with my fingers. It’s very good for your skin, so you don’t have to worry about putting toxic chemicals on your skin.
One last note: As a girl, I know how embarrassing it is to have acne and especially when someone else notices and comments, but I also know that we are usually more critical of our looks than other people are. Most people probably won’t notice it like your grandma did. The fact that your aunt said you are pretty is an indication that your acne is probably not all that terribly noticeable. From the sounds of it, you are a very beautiful girl! However, I completely understand your desire to get rid of the acne entirely. I hope this was a help and an encouragement to you!
    God bless,
    Anna Grace

Ouch, it hurts to have sharp words cutting at you. Here are some suggestions that may help:

    1. Apply a honey mask to your face once or twice a week – Honey has antibacterial properties so it is great for disinfecting and healing minor blemishes. It is also gentle on sensitive skin.

    2. Wash twice a day with acne soap – You should wash your face twice a day with a sulfur based soap designed for acne. Once when you first wake up in the morning and then, right before you go to bed at night. Be extremely gentle to your skin when washing – do not scrub or use any sort of rough cloth. Overwashing your skin will actually stimulate your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, thus increasing your acne.

    3. Keep your hair off your face – If you have long hair or bangs, pull your hair off your face. Your hair contains oils as well, and will contribute to your breakouts. You’ll also want to wash your hair everyday and after workouts

    4. Take a potent multi-vitamin – Acne can be a sign that something is wrong on the inside. Your skin depends on nutrition. It is a vital organ that is usually neglected. If your body is not receiving the right nutrition, it will fight back. One common way it will rebel is to produce excessive sebum, clogging pores, and reducing the ability for your skin to heal and fight bacteria (see Acne Prevention Vitamins)

    5. Include chromium in your diet – Chromium is well known for weight loss diets. But it is also excellent for healing infections on the skin. Taking a chromium supplement once a day will help heal your pimples quickly and prevent future breakouts.

    6. Eat carrots for beta-carotene (Vitamin A) – Vitamin A strengthens the protective tissue of the skin and actually prevents acne. It helps reduce sebum production. This vitamin is essential for the maintenance and repair of the tissue which the skin and mucous membranes are made of. Vitamin A is also a powerful antioxidant needed to rid your body of toxins. Did you know that a deficiency in vitamin A can actually cause acne?

    7. When you wear makeup, use a water-based makeup or powder makeup. This will provide coverage on your acne without feeding oils to your face.

    8. Do not pick or squeeze your blackheads and pimples – As tempting as it may be, do not squeeze, scratch, rub or touch your pimples and blackheads. Do any of these actions, actually increases the sebum production. Plus, when you squeeze, you are actually rupturing the membranes below your skin, causing infection and sebum to spread underneath your skin. The result is more pimples.

    8. Wash your pillow case every other day – Your face lays on your pillow case every day. Your pillow case absorbs the oils from your skin and reapplies the dirt and oil. Thus causing breakouts. Keep your sheets and pillow cases clean.

    7. Eat foods rich in zinc – Zinc is an antibacterial agent and a necessary element in the oil-producing glands of the skin. A diet low in zinc can actually cause acne breakouts.

    8. Apply An Anti-Acne Cream to your face every morning. There are plenty of anti-blemish supplements available in the market today. In order to avoid the occurrence of whiteheads and blackheads, you need to try and apply an anti-blemish cream on a regular basis. These creams are readily available through an online store. Simply place an order and the cream of your choice would be delivered to your doorstep.

    9. Wash your face with Olive Oil before you go to bed. It will remove makeup, and, if you rinse your face with soap and water when you’re done, will leave your skin feeling silky soft and smooth. Acne amount should decrease within a day or two of trying this remedy.

    10. Get more sunshine and fresh air. Sunshine stimulates the creation of vitamin D in the body — an essential vitamin for healthy skin. A little bit of fresh air and sunshine every day will also reduce stress and increase oxygen to the skin. Even when it’s overcast, the sun’s rays reach us, so take a 10 minute walk outside every day. Don’t get burnt in the sun though — apart from increasing the risk of skin cancer, burnt and heavily tanned skin forms a thick layer on the skin’s surface that doesn’t exfoliate quickly enough and leads to blocked pores.

    11. Don’t use too many acne products at once. They will start to dry out the skin too much, causing your face to produce more oil to make up for the oils it lost. Limit yourself to how much facial supplies you use.

I hope those tips help. I have problems with a little bit of acne as well, so you are not alone! Those solutions have worked wonderfully for me, and since I have started taking those ideas, my face has been virtually acne free!

tea tree and lavender oil can help a lot! Also plantain, apple cider vinegar, and baking soda…check your hormones, try taking vitex, red raspberry- or cleanse your liver with healthy fats and Shoshanna’s liver tincture.
I feel your pain! I’ve also struggled with acne. I’m probably not the right person to be responding because I am still not 100 percent clear, but I do know some things that work, since I’ve tried just about everything under the sun! LOL. 😉

I personally don’t have acne, but my younger sister (age 12) does. My mother has her eat sour kraut and garlic and wash her face 2x a day. It’s going away gradually (she is very persistent, which really helps!), but of course, nothing is instant. Also, stay away from all sugar: fruit, honey, etc. as much as you possibly can. This will only feed the bacteria in which the acne grows. Of course, a little bit of sugar won’t hurt you; just don’t overdo it when you do have it.
Hope this helps! May God bless you.
