Question

Posted February 5, 2011

Hi ladies, Welcome to the Preparing to be a Help Meet Online study. I hope that it is a blessing to each one of you. This week you need to read chapter one in your book and look up the word prayer in the Bible. If you have a story about an answer to prayer, or a time when you feel like you might have been praying amiss, than share it with us, we would love to hear about it. I want to hear from you- do you think that our prayers make a difference? Are we helping God when we pray? Did the angels love Daniel, why? Do not just take my momโ€™s/ Debi Pearls word for it, look it up and find out for yourself. If you are unsure as to how to do a word study, then go to the teachers guide at the back of the book. (Page 231) Letโ€™s start praying and see what God can do.

Car titles is a very good financial choice. lol. Personally I’d then start selling the car titles and take the money. I might like chochalate as well… who wouldn’t? And for my own very original idea… how about twenty pounds of copper… I’d then try to make wrist watch springs… maybe

Ok ladies, what have you learned this week while studding prayer and reading chapter 1 in the Preparing book? I have a story to tell you that happened this week with me and my daughter. My husband went to town to pick up a few things for me. After he left I remembered that I needed dog food and some herbs for my mom who was sick. He forgot his phone so I could not call him and tell him, so I looked at Gracie my six year old and said, โ€œWe need to pray and ask God to get daddy to stop at The Herb store and to get dog food as well.โ€ She is a true believer in prayer and said โ€œOk Mom and started praying with me.โ€ When he got home, he walked in the door and said, โ€œDid you want me to go to the herb store? I felt like you told me to stop, but it was not on the list so I didnโ€™tโ€™โ€ I laughed and told him that we had prayed that he would stop. I teased him that he did not listen to God, he just laughed at me. I asked him if he got dog food and again he said, โ€œI was in the store and saw a lady with some and thought I should get some but decided it was not on the list so I didnโ€™t get any.โ€ I thought it was great that he even thought about it. It tells me again that God is there directing us, but we are free to decide what we are going to do. Later that day my sister came with some herbs for my mom. Then my friend was at the store that same day and remembered that I had needed dog food and got some for us. That night when I was at her house she handed me the bag of dog food and I started laughing and told her how we had prayed for dog food that very day. She thought it was great. When we got back into the truck to go home Gracie said โ€œMom I think God told her to get us dog food because Daddy forgot it.โ€ I laughed and said โ€œI believe you are right Gracieโ€ The Lord is truly there answering even our little prayers. Think what God could do if we prayed BIG, not just for Dog food but for the world to be reach with the gospel of Jesus Christ. What if we prayed for God to raise up men to serve him, and then if we were to pray that those menโ€™s ears and hearts would be open to hear what God is directing them to do. Think about it ladies, we could send forth an army of men to fight Gods battle. Remember Matthew 9:36 Jesus was walking with his disciples and he looked out upon the multitudes that were scattered and had no direction and he had compassion on them. He told his disciples. โ€œThe harvest truly is plenteous but the laborers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.โ€ The harvest is ready, but without laborers the fields will be burnt. Remember the verse, {His blood will I require at thin hand.}Ezekiel 3:16-21 Is our lack of prayer putting the blood of those that will never hear the gospel of Jesus on our hands if we do not send forth the laborers? This is just a thought. What have you studied this week? Share time!

      I have a prayer story!

After reading Preparing I started to pray more consistently for my future husband and myself, that we would receive wisdom, understanding and knowledge for our future together and boy did God answer me!!

Within weeks I was shown how much I had learned.
I first learned how to respect my younger teenage brothers as men and not little boys and then God introduced us to another family where the girls treated their 20 year old brothers like little boys and I was agasped at how I had over about two weeks come from their place to where I am now. I also got to see what my brothers would’ve turned into if I hadn’t changed. I would’ve been guilty of helping them turn into whimps, push-overs and unattractive thugs. It’s so freeing too I don’t have to worry about my ‘little’ brothers! I don’t have to do anything and I have fun braging about how manly and Godly they are!

Also they are on my prayer list and boy I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d become presidents (Thanks to God’s teaching them and my GREAT Daddy)!

      Sorry that was long ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for the study Shalom!

I loved what you said about praying for your brothers. I think we would have a lot more good guys out there if sisters were praying for them, and treating them like the men God wants them to become. Thanks Faith for your insight.

I forgot to add the best part! God let me realize that if I was learning so much in such a short time my husband obviously must be too! (You see I tend to pray more for him than for myself and I was amazed that he must be learning tons then)!

      Shalom,

I am finding myself thinking about your stories of prayer on this site and in your articles: the one where you woke your daughter to pray for your van when you were traveling on the road; the other one you posted here on this page. They have been playing over and over in my mind often.

I am inspired in how you take God’s Word so literally, and how you so confidently and yet simply trust that God will answer your prayers. And then I stand amazed at how God answers your prayers – so simple, and yet so amazing! I believe God is using you to stir me to be like this. (And please know I am not saying this to flatter you. I truly am being stirred this way.) Thankyou for praying and trusting God as you do, and for sharing your stories.

    What a neat story, Shalom!

I never really realized until I read this chapter that out prayers are “Unleashing the forces of heaven.” It was actually about two months ago that I read this chapter for probably the sixth time and it actually hit me. I have always spent quite a bit of time in prayer, but had never really realized the purpose of it. I knew that prayer was important so prayed, but never understood why it was so important. Since I realized that, I have seen prayer after prayer answered.

I truly do believe that God answers prayer. I had been seeking God and asking Him to save me, but I never had any assurance. I began to get discouraged. I was then reading the first chapter of PTBAH and it struck me that it took God 21 days to answer Daniel’s prayer because of evil forces. Who knew what my prayers were possibly unleashing! I got very serious about praying, but it didn’t have to wait for 21 days, he saved me that night! : )

This is one of my favorite chapters in the book! I realized how important prayer was and I started praying for wisdom and for my future husband much more faithfully. Actually I’ve been praying more about everything and God has been so faithful to answer! If He’s answering so many prayers that I can see right now, how much more is He doing in my future man’s life?? This chapter opened my eyes and changed my life for the better!

Ok, I have a question. Why did God set prayer up the way he did? Why is it that our prayers unleash the angles? How much are we responsible for praying for? I know that prayer is important, that God wants/needs us to pray, that pray is VERY powerful. I have just been wondering why God set it up the way he did. Any thought on the subject would be appreciated.
Thank you so much Shalom for doing this bible study! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Shalom (Staff) - the author of this post.

I was talking to a friend about this and I think that it is not that God needs our prayers but that he wants us to choose to ask him. He is not going to get in our way, he allows us to make our own chooses. To choose, right or wrong. Prayer is one of those chooses that we make, he wants us, needs us to go to him and not stand on our own . He loves us and wants to help us, but if we do not ask him, then he will leave us alone to learn the hard way, that his way, is the only way.
So if we do not ask, he will not answer, he wants too, so start asking.

        Very good!

I just read the first chapter and I was so glad it was on prayer. I needed this reminder.

As Christians, it is soooo important for us to keep praying – not just to ask for things which is important – especially those things that are in line itih God’s plans – but to be LISTENING to Him also. WE NEED HIM, HIS COMMUINON WITH US….or we get lost and/or distracted with other things in life.

WHy did God set up prayer the way He did?
I think God wants the credit for the good things in our life. If good stuff just fell from heaven with me not asking HIM I might think it was because I was so awesome and not that HE is so awesome. i.e. We must pray for wisdom so that we learn that all wisdom comes down from HIM (and not demonic wisdom also described in James 3) and that without JESUS CHRIST I am a fool. Jesus is the wisdom of God. 1 Cor 1:30

God also wants a relationship with us, if prayer was unnecessary we wouldn’t be motivated to talk to God. He killed His son purely so I could be in relationship with Him again and not go to hell! Remember the tearing of the veil? He really really really wants to talk with you Laura ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t sit down and pray secretly very often. Usually, it’s while I’m working, or absently thinking about something. The Lord is my Listener.

I was also struck by the fact that it took God 3 weeks to answer Daniel’s prayers. Immediately, the Lord brought to my mind how every CNA class I’ve been looking at (about a dozen or more) was either not accepting anymore students or way too expensive for me.

I often wondered why the Lord was keeping me from attending a course so that I could get a job. It was amazing after I read what Mrs. Pearl said about Daniel’s prayers. Could it be that the evil forces were keeping me from becoming a CNA – and NOT the Lord?

Thank God that His truth is being proclaimed!

I really am thankful for this first chapter! It really hit home the first time I read it. I have been making it a habit to pray for anyone or anything as it comes to mind. I have been so blessed by the many ways God has answered! Last month I was sitting in a parking lot with my sibilings and began to feel very uncomfortable about the man in the vehicle next to us. After we’d been sitting there about an hour, I sugested that we pray that he leave to my sibilings and within 1 minute a woman came and got in the truck with him and away thay went!!! I am so thankful to God for always hearing and answering our prayers! He is SO good to me! This is just one of the MANY ways I have been blessed be the amazing gift of prayer!

Well this is my first day reading the book and I’m so happy!
It’s amazing what God wants from us when we pray.
I believe that our prayers make a difference in the world, I also belive that we help God when we pray, not like He needs us to do things because he has the power to do anything but I mean that He likes to help us and blessing us, and the most usual way to bless us when we pray , when we tell him that we need Him
